Governors for the Climate consolidate in 2021
A group formed by 25 Brazilian governors is represented at COP26 and works to build a space where climate ambition is replicated
Among the efforts of the subnational actors to build a space in which the climate ambition is replicated, the Brazil Climate Center (CBC) led the coordination for the initiative “Governors for the Climate,” which involves 25 Brazilian governors. In addition to representations at COP26 in Glasgow, the state leaders held virtual meetings with John Kerry, the special presidential envoy of the United States for the climate, and also with advisory ministers from the European Union. One of the main highlights was sending a letter to the American president, Joe Biden, on the eve of the Leaders Summit on Climate, in April. iCS supports the CBC and helps to promote the contact of the signatories with international organizations.
