Energy justice in the favelas

Updated: Aug 17, 2021

In the first six months of 2021, RioOnWatch told a series of stories about energy justice and efficiency within Rio de Janeiro communities, in videos, surveys, reports and illustrations

Promoting the discussion and the debate about energy justice and efficiency within Rio de Janeiro communities. All this in a current scenario of a critical increase in energy tariffs and the risk of rationing, which will fall disproportionately on the low-income population. This was the central theme of the Energy Justice series, published in the first half of 2021 by RioOnWatch. It used research, reports, illustrations and videos to address the issue from the point of view of the favela residents in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro.

In all, 18 new forms of content were published about energy justice and efficiency, with narratives from 23 different communities. Learn about it here

One tip: give yourself plenty of time because these are fundamental stories about understanding the reality of the many people living in one of the main Brazilian metropolises.
